GRAND ISLAND, Florida — An early morning crash killed a pedestrian who was standing in the eastbound lane of County Road 44, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Around 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, Takeya Williams, 36, of Leesburg was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi eastbound on County Road 44 near Apiary Road when she struck a pedestrian who was standing in the eastbound lane of County Road 44, said FHP Lt. Kim Montes in a press release. Williams suffered minor injuries and was taken to AdventHealth Waterman.
The pedestrian, a 26-year-old man from Leesburg, was killed on scene and he has not been identified pending notification of next of kin. The crash is under investigation.
