LEESBURG, Florida — A four-month stint of thefts came to an end Friday when a Leesburg man was busted with numerous stolen items.
On Friday, a man returned to Gator Storage, 2604 South Street, after being out of town since August and found his trailer, valued at $4,500 had been stolen, according to an arrest affidavit. He described the trailer and told police an employee had gotten information about his stolen property.
The employee told police Brandy Elise Daniel Allen, 35, said her husband, Gregory Wayne Allen, 36, had stolen the trailer and altered its appearance. Allen had been using it for several months to transport other stolen items, Brandy Allen said. Police responded to Allen’s home and found the trailer sitting in front of the home.
The owner of the trailer came to Allen’s home and identified the trailer and several items, including a truck bumper, a buffing machine and various tools. Allen’s wife told police she was suspicious about the trailer when Allen brought it home, but he told her he traded some paint work for it. She later noticed a pattern of Allen leaving between 10 p.m. and midnight and returning home with property he traded for “labor,” the affidavit states.
Police searched the home and the trailer and found items from three separate Leesburg burglary cases. Allen was interviewed and he confessed to stealing the trailer and other items from Gator Storage.
Allen was charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of grand theft with breaking and entering, one count of grand theft and one count of tampering with evidence. He is being held at the Lake County Jail on $28,000 bond.
Brandy Allen was arrested on an unrelated warrant for battery and two counts of violating pretrial release. She is being held at the Lake County Jail on no bond.
