CLERMONT, Florida – A two-vehicle crash Tuesday resulted in the arrest of one driver for DUI after a police investigation revealed that Amy Shabluk, 48, had arrived to pick her child up from school while driving impaired. With reported breath samples of .28 and .29, Shabluk is presumed to have been driving at more than three times Florida’s legal limit of .08.
A Clermont Police Department officer who responded to the crash at Citrus Tower Boulevard and Excalibur Road states in his arrest affidavit that he “could smell the strong and distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from [Shabluk’s] breath. Her speech sounded slurred as well as thick tongued. Her eyes looked watery and bloodshot as well.” It was further alleged that despite efforts to get Shabluk to stop, following the crash, Shabluk would not. Even when the investigating officer arrived on the scene, Shabluk “asked if she could just leave and I explained that she could not,” the report states.
Shabluk’s charges include DUI, DUI with property damage, and leaving the scene of an accident. She was transported to the Lake County Jail on $3,000 bond; she bonded out within approximately 5 1/2 hours.
