EUSTIS, Florida — A Mount Dora man with a history of violent offenses is facing a slew of new charges after police say he attacked his girlfriend’s husband.
According to a probable cause affidavit, a woman texted her husband about picking up some items in the early morning hours of Oct. 27. Around 5:30 a.m. the victim answered a knock at the door and found his wife standing there asking for a few items. They argued back and forth for a few moments and the woman’s boyfriend, Jaylen Tremaine Dawkins, allegedly approached the door with a silver gun in his hand. The woman said, “Don’t shoot him,” and Dawkins pointed the gun at the victim and threatened to shoot, the affidavit alleges. Dawkins, 24, began pushing the door and reached inside and struck the victim in the nose with the gun, the report states. He suffered a bloody and swollen nose.
The victim “submitted” and allowed his wife to come in. The victim told police he was unsure who came in and out of the house because he kneeled to the ground and closed his eyes due to the amount of pain he was in. The victim’s daughter called 911 as the pair left the home.
Eustis Police Department responded to the call and notified Mount Dora Police they were investigating an incident involving one of their residents. MDPD saw Dawkins’ vehicle and attempted to stop him. He refused to stop and MDPD officers began a pursuit that also included the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. They were unable to stop him and terminated the pursuit.
Dawkins was just picked up in Leesburg Friday and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, assault with intent to commit a felony, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, armed burglary, fleeing and eluding and driving while license suspended. He is being held at the Lake County Jail on $131,000 bond.
