[11/22/19 8:15 p.m.] EUSTIS, Florida — Four suspects are in custody after an armed carjacking and leading three law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase.
An elderly woman was carjacked in the city limits of Mount Dora Friday afternoon by three males and a female, said Eustis Police Community Relations Officer Lauren Brown. Eustis Police spotted the stolen red Lincoln SUV and it fled. “It ghosted us,” Brown said.
The Lake County’s Sheriff’s Office helicopter assisted the officers in their search for the suspects. “Eagle One spotted [the suspects] switching cars,” Brown said. The suspects got into a black Ford Fusion — a rental car — and fled again. Eustis Police chased the suspects through several residential areas, including Waycross Avenue and Prescott Street. Damage to the Ford indicated a pit maneuver may have been used, but Lake Legal News was unable to confirm that on scene. A pit maneuver is a pursuit tactic used by a pursuing car to force a fleeing car to turn sideways abruptly, causing the driver to lose control.
Authorities shut down State Road 44 near 44B near the Circle K, during rush hour and deployed stop sticks in an effort to stop the suspects, Brown said. The stop sticks were successful and three males and one female were taken into custody. Mount Dora Police took custody of the female and two males; their names and charges were unavailable at press time. Eustis Police took one male into custody, identified as Jamicah Forsythe.
Forsythe is facing a reckless driving charge and a charge of fleeing and eluding. Other charges may be added. All four suspects were taken to the Lake County Jail.
This is a developing story.
