MOUNT DORA, Florida – A man who was angry about being asked for identification, attacked a Walmart cashier Saturday night.
According to an arrest affidavit, Joshua Fawcett, 35, of Eustis asked to buy cigarettes and refused to hand over his identification when the cashier asked. The cashier asked for his identification multiple times and Fawcett became irate and started cursing and yelling, according to the affidavit.
A manager came over and Fawcett showed his ID and the cashier told him to leave, the affidavit states. Fawcett then came around the register and struck the cashier multiple times in the head with his fist, causing a cut to the cashier’s left eyebrow.
Fawcett told Mount Dora police he goes to Walmart frequently and always shows his identification. He told police he refused this time because he has showed that particular cashier his identification multiple times, so he asked for a manager, according to the affidavit. The manager told Fawcett he needs to shows his identification every time. After confirming his identification, Fawcett told police the cashier began yelling, telling him he, “isn’t getting nothing,” and put his hands in Fawcett’s face. Fawcett told police he swung at the cashier in his own defense.
Fawcett was charged with burglary with a battery and was taken to the Lake County Jail where he was released on $25,000 bond.
