EUSTIS, Florida – A 13-year-old Eustis Middle School student was arrested Friday for making a false threat.
The school’s resource deputy (“SRD”) was notified by dean of discipline that multiple students heard the student state he would, “pull out his Glock and start shooting,” and he, “would bring his gun to school and shoot it up,” the arrest affidavit states. Lake Legal News is not identifying the suspect due to his age. The SRD searched the 13-year-old suspect and did not find any weapons.
The SRD then interviewed several witnesses and one told him the suspect did make the statements and was wearing a mask at the time. Another witness stated the suspect said he was going to cut himself if a child who was “messing with him” did not leave him alone, according to the affidavit.
The suspect was questioned by the SRD and he admitted saying he was going to cut himself, but denied the statements about a gun. The SRD told the boy three witnesses stated they heard him say he would pull out the glock and two people heard him say he would bring a gun to school. The boy then admitted he said he would pull out the glock, the affidavit states. The boy told the deputy he does not have access to guns and his father told the deputy he no longer has guns in the house, the affidavit stated. As the SRD walked the suspect back to the front office he stated, “Why do I always do this to myself?”
The boy has a history of violence at school, the SRD noted in the affidavit. He was taken into custody and turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
